Anna Jurinich

Croatia, 1958

As a child, Anna Jurinich and her family fled Soviet ruled Croatia and traveled through Western Europe while awaiting clearance to immigrate to the US.  It was then, and in particular, during her time studying Renaissance art in Italy, that the young artist’s aesthetic began to form.  Going against the grain of many of her pop art contemporaries, Jurinich works in a traditional impressionist style using acrylic, oil, and ink to paint dream-like expressions of nature and the cosmos.  Her work also exhibits elements that emanate from the psychological effects of her life as a refugee in concert with world events.

The artist’s work has been shown in exhibitions at the Heckscher Museum, the East End Arts Council, The Parrish Museum, and Southampton Arts Center, as well as at a number of public libraries throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.  Reviews of Jurinich’s work have been published in the New York Times, Newsday, and Pulse and it has appeared on the cover of Dan’s Paper.  In addition, two of Jurinich’s paintings as well as her children’s book “The Christmas Odd Box” will be included in the 2024 Lunar Codex time capsule.

Educated at The High School of Art and Design and Parsons School of Design, Jurinich studied under Marvin Israel, Art Director of Harper’s Bazaar, as well as with CP Pinelles and David Lund.  Jurinich lives and works in Wading River, NY.
